Has anyone ever been to one of those movie premiers where the stars of the film walk a little red carpet while a million flashbulbs pop and people scream in the distance? Do they let the fans anywhere nearby, or is it only for the media? How early do you have to get there if you actually want to see anything?

Yeah, there's usually somewhere for fans to stand. Depending what talent is showing up, they may have a designated place set up with barriers & whatnot.

I went to the Hidalgo one last March. It was at the El Capitan Theater in Hollywood and there were barriers by the red carpet so you could stand on the sidewalk and watch. A few of the actors, including Viggo, who I was there for, came over and signed autographs for people. I think that's how a lot of premieres are, although I do hear of ones that don't let fans nearby.

I just got back from the Harry Potter premiere in New York. The actors usually try to sign some autographs for the people up front but the one today was ridiculous. Everyone was getting pushed around and the people up front were getting pushed back. I'm not sure what time everyone got there. (I got there around 11:30 and was about 7 rows back.) I know some people who got their at 8am weren't much in front of me. Depending on the popularity of the movie, if you want to be up front, you may need to camp out.

That's the one I'd been planning to attend. I'm glad I decided against it! I wouldn't have gotten there until 2 or so and I'm way short, so even if I'm in the second row I don't see jack. I hope you came out of it ok!

I'll have to find somewhere else to stalk Alan Rickman and Gary Oldman...

Yeah, it sounds like it's probably best that you not go then. There was not a whole lot to see. Not to mention that Alan and Gary both weren't there. :(

Bwah! Ok, I would have been seriously cheezed off if I'd put up with all that pushing and crowding for nothing. Phew!

One of my LA pals went to Serenity premiere and cast party, complete with chocolate lake (like Charlie's). Last week she got into the premiere for Johnny Depp's new movie "the Libertine."
She never waits in line but uses her brains, beauty and bravado to weasel her way. It's worth it to get the story.
